Found in Sursee-Zellmoos (Switzerland) but from where did it come?Sursee-Zellmoos is a prehistoric pile dwelling settlement and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps. Occupied from the Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age, the site has recently yielded new lithic artefacts from excavations in its peripheral areas. These discoveries provide fresh insights into raw material procurement and exchange networks. Most silicite artefacts originate from regional sources, while only a few consist of non-local, ‘exotic’ materials transported over long distances. Among these are two axe blades, one of which remains of unknown origin. Preliminary analyses suggest that this artefact may have come from a mining context, but further investigation is needed to confirm its provenance.Keywords: Silicite artefacts, raw material sourcing, Neolithic
