Enhanced Researcher Profile: Integrating openness, diversity, and narrative elements in researcher profiles

This presentation focuses on the Enhanced Researcher Profile concept, which integrates openness, diversity, and narrative elements into researchers' profiles, moving beyond traditional metrics. Presented by Ioana Spanache, PhD, from UEFISCDI at the GraspOS Final Conference in Pisa, the initiative builds on UEFISCDI's BrainMap platform. The Scope and Objectives of the new Researcher Profile (RP) concept are to: Capture a greater diversity of research contributions in line with new practices in research assessment and Open Science. Provide a more holistic representation of researchers’ activities and contributions. Integrate a wider variety of output types: publications, datasets, software, policy contributions, teaching activities, and social engagement activities. Put research contributions in context by integrating qualitative elements such as narratives. Facilitate interoperability with other national and European platforms and databases (e.g., ORCID, EOSC). The mock-up reimagines the existing BrainMap profile layout, introducing structures inspired by narrative CVs. New sections like “Summary” and “Main Achievements” allow researchers to articulate the significance and impact of their work beyond metrics. A dedicated “Openness” section highlights and aggregates Open Science-related practices—such as open-access publications and openly shared datasets or software—reinforcing openness as a cross-cutting dimension of responsible research. The mock-up is built upon BrainMap, an online community developed by UEFISCDI that hosts over 63,000 user profiles from Romania and internationally.
