Land east of Long Lane, Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire. Archaeological Evaluation by Trial Trenching

Nineteen trenches were located and latterly levelled using a Trimble R8s GPS rover, once positioned the trenches were excavated using a JCB 3CX fitted with a wide toothless bucket. In each trench topsoil and any subsoils, were judiciously excavated down to the level of buried archaeological features or the natural. A total of nineteen trenches were excavated within the site boundary, revealing a series of ceramic and chalk filled land drains; as well as evidence of ground raising in the southern field. No features of archaeological significance, local or otherwise were encountered.
