Corner House Farm, Front Street, Grindale, East Riding of Yorkshire. Archaeological Evaluation by Trial Trenching

The aim of the Archaeological Trial Trench Evaluation was to determine the presence/absence, nature, date, quality of survival and importance of archaeological deposits to enable an assessment of the potential and significance of the archaeology to be made. Two trenches were positioned in order to assess previously undisturbed areas of the site within the footprint of the proposed agricultural building. Both trenches measure 20m x 2m. The positions of all trenches was located using a Trimble GPS Rover.. All overburden, topsoil and any subsequent subsoils was carefully removed by mechanical excavator using a wide toothless blade, under archaeological supervision, to the top of archaeological features or layers or natural geological deposits. Two trenches were excavated over the area of development, in which a narrow, shallow feature containing 19th or early 20th century pottery was found at the south-east end of Trench 2.
