ORNAMENTAL DECORATION OF SAINT SOPHIA CATHEDRAL IN KYIV OF THE 11TH CENTURY

Ornamental decor in the architecture of Sophia of Kyiv of the 11th century is considered. The used principle of synthesis of Byzantine and local traditions in the decoration of the cathedral is analyzed. Ornaments in the technique of mosaic and painting are characterized. Attention is focused on traditions and ideological factors that influenced the composition, means of expressiveness of the plot of the ornamental painting of the shrine. The influence of Byzantine art during the development and embodiment of the ornament, the peculiarities of the construction of multivariate patterns, the choice of a suitable location for them, the methods of composition, proportions, color are shown and their influence on the aesthetic design of the composition is shown. The frescoes of Hagia Sophia of Kyiv, created during the Christianization of Kyivan Rus, showed the cultural rise and military power of the Slavic state on the territory of Eastern Europe.
