Siden 1980’erne er behovet for at forbedre sammenhæng på tværs af sektorer og leverandører blevet fremhævet i den danske sundhedspolitiske debat. I artiklen diskuterer vi potentialet i at bruge økonomiske incitamenter til at understøtte bedre sammenhæng på tværs af sundhedsvæsenet. Vi benytter principal-agent-teorien til at belyse virkningen af incitamenterne på sundhedsaktørers adfærd. Artiklen har tre formål. For det første giver vi et overblik over den internationale forskningsviden om virkningen af forskellige typer af økonomiske incitamenter, der kan anvendes til at skabe bedre sammenhæng på tværs af sundhedsaktører. For det andet giver vi bud på, hvordan denne viden kunne benyttes i en dansk kontekst til at forbedre sammenhængen mellem sundhedsaktører og på en måde, som understøtter tredjepartsbetalers målsætninger om at sikre en høj behandlingskvalitet og lave behandlings- og transaktionsomkostninger. For det tredje præsenterer vi viden om fremmere og barrierer for implementering af tværsektorielle økonomiske incitamenter.<br/><br/>Since the 1980s, the need to improve coherence across sectors and providers has been highlighted in the Danish health policy debate. In this article, we discuss the potential of using financial incentives to support better coherence across healthcare actors. We use the principal-agent theory to elucidate the effect of the incentives on the behavior of healthcare actors. The article has three purposes. First, we provide an overview of the international research knowledge on the impact of different types of financial incentives that can be used to create better coherence across health actors. Secondly, we offer suggestions on how this knowledge could be used in a Danish context to improve the connection between healthcare actors and in a way that supports the objectives of third-party payers to ensure a high quality of treatment and low treatment and transaction costs. Third, we present knowledge about facilitators and barriers to the implementation of cross-sectoral economic incentives.
