Der Tod als stilistischer und emotionaler Diskurs. Eine Analyse der Todesmetapher in Matthias Glasners Film "Sterben" (2024)

This articlewill analyze howtheGerman filmDying (2024) by director Matthias Glasner uses death not only as a narrative theme, but as a complex metaphor for the deconstruction of identity, family, and emotional breakdown. With its simple title, the film draws attention to a universal experience but does so in a way whereby death is treated rather symbolically and metaphorically, through a series of stylistic constructions designed to translate the experience of death into visual, musical, and discursive terms. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the way in which the metaphor of death is used as a stylistic and expressive device in film, focusing on its emotional impact on the viewer. Methodologically, the study is based on a qualitative stylistic analysis, which startsfrom the theory of metaphor and issupplemented by elements of film aesthetics. Both main scenes and recurring means of expression such as music, silence, light, or body language, which support the metaphor of death in various forms, are analyzed.
