Aquarius paludum paludum (Fabricius, 1794) Gerris paludum (Fabricius): Lindberg (1922: 16), “ Beirut, am Flusse Nahr el Beirut ”. Aquarius paludum paludum (Fabricius): Andersen (1995 b: 99), “ Lebanon ”, probable quotation of Lindberg (1922); Damgaard et al. (2014: S6), “ Lebanon ”, quotation of Andersen (1995 b); Ghahari et al. (2023j: 7), “ Lebanon ”, quotation of previous references. Material examined. Survey material: Basin of El Kebir: El Kebir at Hoker ed Dahri, 14.VI.2008, 1 ♀ macr. Fig. 3a), MLUB. General distribution. The nominotypical subspecies shows an Asiatic-European distribution, including the continental part of the Oriental Region and Taiwan (see Damgaard et al. 2014; Ye et al 2022). Remarks. The only specimen examined shows a distinct reddish-yellow brown pronotum (Fig. 3a). Pale coloured specimens have led in the past to the description of new taxa from Middle East, i.e. Cylindrosterhus bergrothi Lindberg, 1922 from Jordan and Gerris paludum palmonii Wagner, 1954 from Israel, both today considered synonyms of Gerris paludum Fabricius, 1794 (currently Aquarius paludum paludum) since pale coloured specimens of the latter occur from various places (see Kanyukova 1982, Andersen 1990, Damgaard et al. 2014). The name A. paludum amamiensis (Miyamoto, 1958) is reserved to the populations of Ryukyu Islands, in Japan (Andersen 1990, 1995 b; Hiraishi 2023). The current record is a confirmation of that by Lindberg (1922).
