East Luwu Mahalona Transmigrant Alternatives in Mitigating Poverty Impact

The implementa on of transmigra on programs has used a new paradigm in inter-regional cooperation schemes. Some regions are interested in reloca ng their popula on that does not have natural land resources to ful ll their needs and those that are interested in receiving popula on migra on to manage the abundant natural land resources for their region’s economic growth. However, the two typologies of regions need to cooperate, which in this case is through the transmigrant on program.One of the inter-regional coopera on in the transmigration program implemented by East Java Province and South Sulawesi Province is the setlement of transmigrants from East Java in UPT Mahalona, East Luwu, South Sulawesi. This program was implemented in 2012, with the se lement of 30 families consistng of 110 people in SP.3 and 25 families consis ng of 76 people setled in 2013. UPT Mahalona consists of SP.1, SP.2, SP.3, and SP.4 in Towu, East Luwu, South Sulawesi. East Luwu is an expansion district from North Luwu that was established in 2003.
