Research on hybrid effect of hybrid fiber reinforced plastics: A review

Compared with single fiber composites, hybrid fiber reinforced plastics (HFRPs) have better designability, specific strength, specific stiffness, toughness, and corrosion resistance. Due to the above advantages, HFRPs are increasingly widely used in aviation, aerospace, rail transit, national defense and military industries, wind power generation, and other fields. The hybrid effect is the reason for the better properties of HFRPs, so it is of great significance to study the hybrid effect. In this paper, the research on hybrid effect is reviewed. First, the theory of hybrid effect is expounded, and the shortcomings of current theoretical research are pointed out. The failure mode and failure mechanism of HFRPs are analyzed, and the existing problems in this research are discussed and summarized. Then the influence factors of the hybrid effect under tension are analyzed, and the hybrid effect under pressure is also analyzed and discussed. Finally, the research on hybrid effect is summarized, and the direction, key points, and difficulties of future research are put forward to guide the development and application of hybrid effect research.
