Classic. In memory of the antiquarian V. D. Blavatsky

The article is dedicated to the memory of the outstanding scientist Vladimir Dmitrievich Blavatsky, who devoted his life to the study of Аrt and Archaeology of the Greek and Roman world, including the monuments of the Northern Black Sea Area. These notes in no way can claim to be a comprehensive analysis of the scientific activities of V.D. Blavatsky. We were only able to touch on various aspects of it, show the direction of interests, outline the out- line of the person who would be fair to consider the founder of the new Moscow school of antiquity. The School related to both Art history and Archaeology, both for field practice and university education. Having started his career with the painstaking and important work of a museum curator and an Art historian, V. D. Blavatsky also mastered the profession of an archaeologist, which he soon concentrated on. He revived and renewed the life of Classical antiquity after revolutions and wars, launching it into a new round of development, and as much as he had the strength, he created his own world, his own cosmos.
