Relationship Between Systemic Inflammatory Parameters, Clinical Features, and SUDEP Risk in Epilepsy

Background: Inflammatory responses and clinical effects in epilepsy are noteworthy topics. In recent years, it has been shown that the monocyte/HDL ratio (MHR) is associated with prognosis and mortality in many diseases where inflammation plays a role. In this study, the relationship between systemic inflammatory parameters and the clinical features of epilepsy patients and the increased risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) was investigated. Materials and Methods: Demographic characteristics, epilepsy clinical findings, SUDEP 7 inventory results of 50 epilepsy patients followed up in the epilepsy clinic and HDL levels, neutrophil, lymphocyte, monocyte data of 30 healthy volunteers were evaluated. Results: No statistically significant difference was found between the control group and the epilepsy group in terms of lymphocyte, neutrophil, monocyte, HDL, MHO, neutrophil lymphocyte ratio (NLR) values (p>0.05). There was a statistically inverse correlation between NLR and SUDEP 7 score value.(r=0.298, p=0.035). No statistically significant difference was found in terms of HDL, lymphocyte, neutrophil and NLR results according to the seizure frequency of the patients (p>0.05).
