Abstract Education for the art and through the art in relation to the presenttheory of Florian Znaniecki Education through and for the arts is still an open and reflective topic. We point to two methods of education. The first concerns the education and training of art recipients in such a way that they are able to relate to art with due respect and to know and experience it properly. The second method consists of stimulating and developing creative activity.Education through art is the stimulation of self-expression, the reception of works of art. on the personality of man, his mentality, emotionality, social sensitivity to other areas of life. The educational function is normative, regulatory, integrative. It influences life choices, is a source of attitudes, choices.Education in art, i.e. preparing the recipient for the correct interpretation of works of art and acquiring an aesthetic culture, is also very important. The pilot changes in music art education have provided plenty of evidence of the validity of activities designed to both educate through art and to art. It is innovative to relate these activities in the context of the sociology of upbringing and the thought of Florian Znaniecki.Following the message of this theory, it should be stated that the process of pilot changes treated upbringing as a social activity, where the subject was the pupil, as a candidate for a member of a social group, either a group of professional musicians (performers, composers) or an audience – conscious recipients. The aim of such upbringing was to prepare a young adept of the arts to perform the role of a member of a group. The new role of the chamber musician, the student playing in bands, corresponds to Znaniecki’s theses, which state that the aim of upbringing a candidate for group membership should be to mould the individual members of the group towards their socialisation, so that they are capable of creating, cooperating with, subordinating and leading. The aspect of participation in culture as a manifestation of upbringing was taken up by Florian Znaniecki at the beginning of the 20th century and does not lose its relevance despite the transformations in 21st century society.
