Multi-level framework for scientific writing

This is a framework that codifies my approach to scientific writing, taught in lectures, seminars and workshops. It guides writers through four hierarchical levels — manuscript, section, paragraph/sentence, word — with specific criteria for building a clear, navigable narrative at each level. Follow it from top to bottom for the writing phase. Work your way from bottom to top for editing and rewriting.This framework assumes familiarity with underlying concepts such as hourglass structure, thematic progression and signposting. But I hope that even on its own it will serve as a systematic checklist that helps maintain quality and consistency, for both novice and experienced writers.It also supports AI-assisted writing: each cell converts into a prompt for a large language model (LLM).
