The System of Spatial Recognition in the Brain

Recent discussions have focused on flight training as a preventive measure against accidents caused by spatial disorientation (SD). This is because existing simulation systems for mechanical equipment rely on experienced-based training rather than fostering self-generated attitude change; that is, they emphasize a hands-on educational approach. This might be a real problem for pilots. Accordingly, in this chapter we study a simulation system using three-dimensional computer graphics that can help novice pilots act from shared awareness with an AI robot by analyzing themselves from self-generated attitude change. This AI robot, known as HARIS (Human-AI Interactive Support System), interactively supports novice pilots within the simulation system, adapting its guidance to each pilot’s personality and cognitive traits.
