Vehicle-Road Cooperative Traffic Control Algorithm for Highway Work Zone

—The construction Work Zone of highways often requires the closure of some lanes, which can cause bottlenecks in road traffic capacity. To ensure the efficiency of driving vehicles in the construction Work Zone, this study focuses on the construction Work Zone scenario, applies vehicle road coordination technology, and combines the current low penetration rate of connected vehicles to construct data fusion algorithms, variable speed limit control algorithms, and dynamic lane control algorithms for the construction Work Zone. Through accurate perception of traffic information in the construction Work Zone, speed limits at the construction Work Zone and its upstream sections, and dynamic lane merging control, scientific control of mixed traffic flow in the highway construction Work Zone is achieved. According to the simulation results, it can be seen that the control algorithm constructed in this study reduces the average delay in construction Work Zone by 17.8% under different flow rates. The best control effect is achieved when the penetration rate of connected vehicles is 100%, and the control effect is better when the penetration rate is greater than or equal to 10%. The control algorithm in this study can effectively improve the traffic efficiency of construction Work Zone.
