Seismic slope stability & deformation analyses for a heap leach facility

This paper presents the results of seismic slope stability and deformation analyses on a heap leach facility under operational basis earthquake and maximum design earthquake conditions. The results of pseudo-static slope stability analyses under maximum design earthquake conditions resulted in a factor safety of less than 1.0. Subsequently, seismic deformation analyses were conducted utilizing the methods of Makdisi and Seed (1978) and Bray et al. (1998). The deformations predicted using the Bray et al. (1998) method are less than those predicted using the Makdisi and Seed (1978) method.
