Determining the minimum force to insert or remove a cork from a sealed cylinder

Abstract In the case of a difference in internal and external pressure, the cork closing the air filled cylinder remains at rest due to the force of friction. An interesting question is how much can be compressed air in a cylinder using a long tight-fitting cork and what force is needed to remove the cork.
