A Study on The Effect of Interspersed Winding on Induction Motor Harmonic Losses

In recent years, the demand for improving the efficiency of electrical motors has been increasing in response to the global movement toward realizing a decarbonized society. This study investigates the interspersed winding method introduced in the literature [1][2], which is designed to reduce the $5^{\text {th }}$ and $7^{\text {th }}$ harmonic components in electric motors and improve motor performance. It is typically applied to 2 pole machines with a high number of slots per pole per phase. This method has primarily been evaluated in terms of changes to the winding factor. Furthermore, copper bar rotors are mainly used in the market, and there is no report of applying this method to aluminum bar rotors. In this study, we conduct magnetic field analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of interspersed winding in aluminum bar rotors. In comparing the results, we used the number of stator slots as a parameter and evaluated the harmonic loss for interspersed winding on aluminum die-cast rotor.
