The Principle of Action as a Pre-Physical Organizing Rule: Time, Space, and Dimensional Selection

This paper develops a conceptual and philosophical framework in which the principle of action is elevated from a methodological tool to a pre-physical organizing rule. Rather than treating spacetime structure and the arrow of time as emergent consequences of statistical mechanics alone, the paper argues that temporal orientation, spatial geometry, dimensionality, and topology arise from a global variational selection operating prior to spacetime realization. Statistical and thermodynamic laws are interpreted as emergent, intra-history descriptions that presuppose a realized spacetime. The work is intentionally non-formal and focuses on logical coherence, ontological clarity, and conceptual consistency, serving as a foundational companion to a subsequent axiomatic treatment.
