Development of floor design response spectra by power spectral density approach

Considering the random nature of the ground motions, the first attempts to analyse structures under seismic disturbances using probabilistic methods have been initiated around mid 1960’s. Although these methods seemed very promising at the beginning, they were hindered by the insufficiency of available statistical strong motion data in one side, and by the world wide acceptance of the practically efficient response spectrum method on the other side.
