Proprioceptive training in patients with total hip arthroplasty: a controlled clinical study of 2 cases

Hip arthroplasty is a surgical procedure that totally or partially replaces the hip joint with prostheses in order to restore joint mobility. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of proprioceptive training in a controlled environment in 2 patients with total hip arthroplasty. This study was submitted to the CEP-Una BH, obtaining a favorable opinion under number: CAE 90159125200005098. The patients were identified as follows: 1A and 2A. The assessments for patient measurements included sociodemographic and anthropometric data. The assessment instruments used were: the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Short-Form - Brazilian version and the Harris Hip Score (Modified) Portuguese version. The results obtained for the evaluation of the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Short-Form - Brazilian version for patients 1A and 2A showed a p-value <0.05, which was considered significant when subjected to ANOVA testing. The Harris Hip Score (Modified) instrument, in Portuguese version, showed a p-value <0.04, also considered significant. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed protocol for physiotherapy treatment for patients with total hip arthroplasty presents significant therapeutic potential, even with a small sample size of only 2 clinical cases. Further studies should be conducted, increasing the sample size and the intervention time.
