African catfish is considered one of the important commercial breeding fish in Africa and in many countries of the world, due to its distinguished characteristics and many positive characteristics that helped in the success of its breeding. It is one of the best species for artificial breeding fish in that it has the ability to withstand difficult environmental conditions such as the low level of dissolved oxygen. In water and constant changes in water temperatures, in addition to the ease of acclimatization to different breeding conditions; the possibility of breeding them naturally or artificially, which provides the quantities required for breeding, with the ease of distinguishing between males and females through the apparent shape of the genitals, which facilitates spawning operations; it has the ability to grow in high densities. Under the intensive breeding system, the possibility of feeding them on cheap food, which reduces production costs, and their growth and feed conversion rates are considered high. They have high resistance to diseases, especially fungal and bacterial, due to the abundance of mucus secreted on the skin. It allows the manufacturing process, and besides all that, being a predatory fish, its use in polyculture with tilapia fish helps in controlling unwanted frequent reproduction of tilapia fry.
