BPMN or EPC Process Models Too Large? Problem Solved

Why do swimlanes consume so much space in process diagrams, and how can color-based visualization improve diagram readability?This video examines common layout challenges in business process modeling, particularly the difficulty of fitting complex diagrams onto a single page or screen. The video compares Event-driven Process Chains (EPC) and BPMN with respect to diagram length and layout characteristics and explains why swimlanes often lead to inefficient use of space. As an alternative, a color-based visualization approach for representing resources is introduced. The video presents a new feature in YAWL that automatically assigns colors based on role definitions, enabling more compact and readable process diagrams.
