Controlled Surface Blasting in an Operating Refinery Environmental Concern and Control Measures

Mangalore Refinery & Petrochemicals Ltd., (MRPL) is located about 20 km. north east of Mangalore in South Karnataka and is spread over an area of 1650 acres of land. The terrain is hilly and undulating with levels varying from +6M. MSL to +80M MSL. The 1 Phase of MRPL’s 3.6 MMTPA refineiy was completed in mid 1996 and the 2nd Phase for 6.0 MMTPA was commenced in December 1996 and completed in July 1999.
