MATCHFEM: A Tool for Automating Steel Structures Digital Design for Construction and Digital Life.

Abstract The digitization of construction processes is advancing at a rapid pace, with Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodologies playing a central role. The integration of these technologies provides an efficient and reliable project execution. Steel structures, characterized by their standard elements, lend themselves well to industrialization and precision in construction. BIM methodologies are particularly effective in these scenarios, offering opportunities for improved life cycle analysis through enhanced traceability of components. This approach leads to a more sustainable and optimized design and construction process. The use of parametric design tools in steel structures is becoming increasingly common, allowing for greater optimization of structural components design. By embedding measurements and data within BIM models, additional layers of information can be integrated, further enhancing structural control and management throughout the project's life cycle. This paper introduces MatchFEM, a tool designed to integrate multiple layers of information for structural design and control within a computational geometry platform. MatchFEM interconnects geometries, incorporates sensors, numerical models, and various applications to optimize the design and monitoring of steel structures. Case studies for structural elements showcase the tool's capabilities and effectiveness.
