Aeroelastic Stability Assessment of the AMSL Aero Vertiia eVTOL Aircraft

This paper presents the results of the aeroelastic stability analyses performed for the AMSL Aero Vertiia eVTOL aircraft. A comprehensive dynamic model of the aircraft is developed in MATLAB using Reduced-Order Models (ROMs) of the Vertiia subcomponents provided by AMSL Aero. The analyses are conducted in airplane mode under sea-level conditions, incorporating propeller aeromechanical models across selected trim configurations. For all configurations investigated, the primary flutter mechanism is driven by a symmetric mode, involving modal coupling between the front and rear wings. The inclusion of propellers has a stabilizing influence on the aeroelastic response, increasing the flutter speed by 14% relative to the bare-airframe configuration. All predicted flutter speeds remain above the aircraft’s dive speed, thereby satisfying the flutter clearance requirements and confirming asymptotic stability throughout the airplane-mode flight envelope.
