Power Quality Assessment in a DC Grid for an All-Electric Aerial Vehicle

In recent years, eVTOLs have emerged as a promising solution in the Urban Air Mobility market segment, combining high-voltage batteries, power electronics and electric machines in a non-conventional propulsion system. The integration of these technologies in high-power and high-voltage systems creates the need for new power quality requirements. This work quantifies power quality behaviors related to small-signal stability, differential mode voltage ripple and differential mode input current ripple in an eVTOL electrical architecture based on EUROCAE's ED-332 "Guidance on Characteristics of Aircraft Propulsive High-Voltage DC Electrical Systems''. Simulation results indicate that damping the resonance between wiring inductance and the inverter DC-link can reduce differential mode input current ripple by up to 78.2%, while ensuring compliance with voltage ripple requirement.
