Approach and Application of Evaluations for Digital Transformation in Aerospace

At Spirit AeroSystems, we are on a Digital Transformation journey. As part of this journey, we have been conducting Research and Development (R&D) activities to examine different methods and tools to accomplish of our digital business objectives. As part of these Proof of Concepts (POCs), we have utilized some toolsets/platforms to investigate their ability to satisfy the 2018 DoD Digital Transformation Strategy commonly followed in Aerospace and Defense. The approach we took and how we documented the results of the POCs will be discussed in this paper. It should help support others seeking an approach to successfully assess the usefulness of the technologies and processes for Digital Engineering. This paper will expand on the theme of our paper and presentation at the AIAA Aviation Forum in 2023 on “The Application of Digital Engineering at a Tier 1 Supplier and the Challenges of Integration throughout the Supply Chain (OEM to Tier 1 Supplier and Below”.
