Dataset for: Automated Identification of Sedimentary Basins in California and Nevada Using Wavelet Decomposition of Topography

This repository contains the geospatial datasets of the study “Automated Identification of Sedimentary Basins in California and Nevada Using Wavelet Decomposition of Topography.” The data products are derived from wavelet analysis of digital elevation models(DEMs) and are used to identify sedimentary basins and characterize basin size across multiple spatial scales. The files labeled C_xxx correspond to normalized continuous wavelet transform (CWT) coefficient maps at characteristic length scales of xxx meters. These multi-scale wavelet coefficient maps quantify topographic signatures associated with sedimentary basins and are partially visualized in Figure 2 of the paper. The rasters paper_flat_terrain, paper_low_land, and paper_combined represent binary basin identification maps shown in Figure 4A–C. These products identify basin regions based on flat-terrain criteria, low-land criteria, and their combined classification, respectively. The rasters paper_fundamental_size and paper_wavelength_bins correspond to Figure 5A and Figure 5B. The paper_fundamental_size raster provides the estimated fundamental basin length scale derived from the dominant wavelet response. The paper_wavelength_bins raster classifies basin size into discrete categories based on wavelength ranges. In this raster, integer values from 0 to 4 indicate: 0: non-basin 1: basin edge / transitional zone 2: small basin 3: medium basin 4: large basin All datasets are provided in geospatial raster format and are intended for use in seismic site characterization, basin modeling, and ground-motion studies. The data may be reused for research and educational purposes with appropriate citation of the associated publication.
