Another one new Permanent GNSS Station Installation at Kavalos, Lefkada

As part of the ongoing activities of the HOMEROS project, a new permanent GNSS station has been successfully installed in the settlement of Kavalos, on the island of Lefkada, one of the most seismically active regions in Greece. The installation further strengthens the geodetic monitoring infrastructure of the Ionian Islands and contributes to the project’s objective of enhancing multi‑hazard observation capabilities through the integration of Earth Observation and in situ measurements. The GNSS station has been collocated with an already operating seismograph, (named LKD2) allowing for the simultaneous recording of high‑rate geodetic and seismic data at the same site. This co‑location is of particular importance for the detailed investigation of seismic phenomena, as it enables the direct comparison of ground displacements derived from GNSS observations with seismic waveforms recorded during earthquake events. Such combined datasets are essential for improving the understanding of co‑seismic deformation, near‑field ground motion, and long‑term tectonic processes.
