Impact of digitalization on transformation of perceptions of giftedness in XXI century: Ukrainian and global context

The article examines the impact of digitalization on the transformation of concepts of giftedness in the twenty-first century within both Ukrainian and global contexts. The study explores how the rapid development of digital technologies, the emergence of new forms of cognitive activity, and the rise of digital competences have reshaped traditional approaches to understanding the nature of giftedness. It is emphasized that digitalization has expanded the spectrum of abilities recognized as educationally significant and has contributed to the emergence of new criteria for academic and creative excellence in the information society. Special attention is given to modern concepts such as digital talent, information and media literacy, digital creativity, and adaptive thinking, which are viewed as essential components of gifted development in the digital age. The article highlights the role of digital tools (EdTech platforms, online courses, adaptive learning systems, and artificial intelligence) in identifying, supporting, and nurturing gifted children and young people. Digital environments provide new opportunities for individualized learning paths, participation in international competitions, and the implementation of creative projects, while simultaneously intensifying the problem of digital inequality. The specific impact of digitalization on Ukrainian education under martial law, mass transition to remote learning, and unequal access to technologies is analyzed. Both risks (overload, unequal access, psychological challenges) and opportunities (growth of digital competence, expanded global engagement, formation of a digital elite) are identified. The article concludes that digitalization profoundly transforms pedagogical understandings of ability, introducing new conditions for supporting gifted learners. Future research directions include the development of models of digital giftedness, diagnostic tools, the exploration of AI-driven cognitive development, and strategies for supporting gifted youth during and after Ukraine’s recovery.
