PPB Strain Selection – Deliverable D1.1 (Purple4Life)

Deliverable D1.1 – PPB Strain Selection of the PURPLE4LIFE project, funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE JU) under the Horizon Europe programme (Grant Agreement No. 101212806). This deliverable provides a comparative assessment of six purple phototrophic bacteria (PPB) strains as candidates for sustainable production of biomass, carotenoids, and coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). It presents the methodology and results obtained under standardized photoheterotrophic conditions, including light intensity testing, lab-scale cultivation, carotenoid and CoQ10 quantification, antioxidant activity assessment, and statistical analysis. Based on productivity indicators and metabolic compatibility, the report recommends strain selections for consortium partners’ process development in WP1 and identifies priority strains for safety assessment in WP2.
