Cross-Platform 2D and 3D Way-finding Mobile Application for Navigation in Industrial Buildings and Parking Lots

Navigation within complex indoor environments such as university campuses, shopping malls, and airports continues to be an ongoing challenge. This is even more of an issue when there are time constraints and unfamiliar territory. Many solutions that exist are either costly or unreliable and require a continuous network connection. This paper discusses solutions that support both indoor and outdoor way-finding within large and complex buildings. It also explains the design and implementation of a crossplatform mobile solution. Furthermore, this system supports both online and offline options. It uses a graph-based shortest path algorithm. The floor maps are interactive vector-based, with both 2D and 3D visualizations. This system uses QR codes to assist with localization. This application offers a costeffective option as opposed to an infrastructure-heavy indoor navigation system. This design is scalable, maintainable, and accessible.
