Comparative evaluation of the Schiller electrocardiograph and the PetNet ECG cardiogram in recording ECG in sport horses

Mandatory registration of an electrocardiogram (ECG) is a key factor for the qualitative diagnosis of cardiac diseases in sports horses with severe arrhythmias. At the same time, when choosing a device for this study, the veterinarian should rely on signal stability, good recording quality, speed and convenience of the procedure, as well as the cost of the equipment used. Currently, there is an alternative to expensive stationary electrocardiographs – cardioflash, which allows you to perform this procedure in the field if you have a phone with a software package. However, there are no reports in the literature regarding the accuracy of the data obtained when using such devices. Taking this into account, our goal was to conduct a comparative analysis of the quality of electrocardiograms recorded using the proven Schiller three–channel electrocardiograph and the PetNet ECG cardioflash in sports horses. Based on the comparative studies conducted on the operation of these devices, it can be concluded that the use of the PetNet ECG cardioflash is preferable for the cardiological study of sports horses. At the same time, the PetNet ECG mobile registration system is not inferior to the Schiller electrocardiograph traditionally used in cardiology in terms of the quality of the electrocardiographic signal and significantly surpasses it in terms of ease of use and price. In this regard, the use of modern devices for ECG registration in veterinary cardiology similar to the PetNet ECG cardioflash can be recommended for regular monitoring of the state of the cardiovascular system in animals, however, the right to choose which cardiograph to use remains with specialists.
