Synthesis and characterization of new azomethine dyes derived from the 1,2,4-triazine moiety, along with their application in polyester printing

Purpose The purpose of this study is to use the silk-screen printing method to apply synthetic dyes to polyester fabric and assess their color performance. The results showed that the synthetic dyes had high color strength, and the printed fabric’s color coordinates ranged from yellowish to brownish-yellow. Design/methodology/approach Compound 3 has been reacted to yield new 1,2,4-triazine Schiff base derivatives (4a–4c) by using various aldehydes to prepare new azomethine dyes based on the 1,2,4-triazine moiety. In addition, the equivalent novel amino phosphonate (5a, b) was obtained by treating 3 with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde in the presence of triethyl phosphite or triphenyl phosphite in glacial acetic acid. Findings IR, mass spectrometry, ¹H and ¹³C NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis have all been conducted to confirm the structures of the prepared dyes. The fastness properties of the printed samples using these dyes demonstrated good color fastness toward light, washing, rubbing and perspiration. Originality/value A new series of synthesized triazine-based azomethine dyes was prepared and applied to the polyester fabric by the silk-screen printing technique, providing good colorfastness to light, washing, rubbing and perspiration for the printed samples.
