Analysis of cambering, twist, and opening sections for springback prediction

Abstract The accurate prediction of springback in sheet metal forming remains a significant challenge in industrial manufacturing, given its impact on dimensional accuracy and product quality. The present study investigates the effects of both process and material parameters on springback, focusing on geometric deviations like cambering, twist, and opening in the final part. A comprehensive analysis encompassed three coefficients of friction, four constitutive models, and three yield functions. The deep drawing of an automotive side sill closing was selected as a case study representative of the subject. The findings indicate that the coefficient of friction exerts a predominant influence on all three springback indicators - cambering, twist, and opening. Conversely, the selection of constitutive model has a comparatively negligible effect, particularly on twist prediction.
