Better Together Board Game

[English] Better Together is a collaborative board game designed to simulate the real-life experience of migration. When moving to a new place, children need to get to know their environment, make friends, learn the local language, and eventually create a sense of home. This game mirrors that journey in a playful, safe, and collaborative way. It is an interactive game for young children (ages 7–8) to explore cultural diversity, language, and personal identity in a fun and inclusive manner. As players move through different types of challenges together, they share about themselves and learn from others, gaining personal, cultural, and linguistic insights. Better Together was developed as part of the European KidLe Project, funded by the National Agency for the Management of the Erasmus+ Programme – Education and Training (Ref. 2023-1-PT01-KA220-SCH-000154686). Its design is based on socio-emotional and intercultural competence models and participatory methodologies, including co-creation workshops and focus groups with children, families, and teachers. The materials are available in German and English, in Canva and Powerpoint for adaptation to other languages under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International licence. If you wish to translate the materials and/or use them as teaching or research tools, the authors kindly request that you inform them to keep an updated record of existing versions and facilitate potential sharing. You will find detailed printing instructions in the table below. After printing, cut out all cards carefully along the edges. We recommend laminating the boards for longer use. The Who Fits? The board can be written on with a whiteboard marker and wiped clean for repeated use. If laminating is not possible, you can use a pencil and eraser. Wenn Kinder an einen neuen Ort ziehen, müssen sie ihre Umgebung kennenlernen, Freunde finden, die lokale Sprache lernen und schließlich ein Gefühl von Zuhause entwickeln.
