Domain formation in BaTiX3 from single crystal diffuse scattering

Quasi-1D hexagonal perovskites BaTiX3 (X = S, Se) adopt novel charge-density-wave-like phase transitions at cryogenic temperatures. Despite being free from strong electron correlation, the off-centric TiX6 dipoles form unique polarization structures featuring ordered non-collinear vortex-vortex-antivortex networks. The task of this experiment is to use single crystal diffuse scattering to probe the formation of domains within of this complex phases.
