Low-grade osteosarcoma of the right maxillary tuberosity: A case requiring national multidisciplinary team input

Osteosarcomas are malignant neoplasms producing osteoid; approximately 5–7% occur in the jaws, often presenting in the fourth to fifth decades and exhibiting better prognosis than those in long bones. [1,2] We describe a 52-year-old female with a low-grade osteosarcoma of the right maxillary tuberosity, managed through national MDT input amid significant medical comorbidity. Clinical examination revealed a firm, ulcerated mass; biopsy and imaging initially suggested squamous cell carcinoma. Wide excision was performed. Specialist histopathology identified low-grade osteosarcoma. Postoperative MI precluded adjuvant therapy; annual surveillance was instituted. There is currently no clinical or radiologic evidence of recurrence. This case underscores the diagnostic complexity, need for MDT management, and surveillance importance in jaw osteosarcoma.
