Papillary carcinoma in thyroglossal duct cyst: A case report

Thyroglossal duct cyst malignancies are rare phenomena which usually present as midline swelling. Ultrasonography and computed tomography show solid-cystic components, irregular margins and calcifications. Fine needle aspiration cytology is inconclusive and diagnosis is confirmed by histopathological analysis. We present a case of 36 year old female who presented with painless midline swelling. On ultrasonography and contrast enhanced computed tomography, solid-cystic lesion with few foci of calcifications was noted. Involvement of strap muscles was determined by computed tomography. Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology showed papillary carcinoma which was further proven by histopathological analysis after surgery.
