Diagnosis of pulmonary sequestration and systemic arterial anomalies: case report

Pulmonary sequestration (PS) is a developmental anomaly of lung tissue in which the abnormally developed section is disconnected from the normal bronchial system and is supplied by branches of aberrant vessels. Clinical manifestations of this defect typically begin in childhood, but diagnosing PS in adults is also possible. Visualization of the aberrant vessel supplying the pathological section is of important diagnostic value. The aim of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of diagnosing late-onset PS. Conclusion. The presented clinical observation highlights the complexities and sequence of diagnostic and differential diagnosis steps for a rare pulmonary anomaly presenting as community-acquired pneumonia.
