A fault location technology for collector lines in onshore wind farms

Most wind farms adopt large-scale centralized access systems, and the collection lines are generally only equipped with measuring devices at the beginning of the lines. If single-end fault location is carried out, only multiple suspected fault points can be obtained on different branches, and the actual fault location cannot be determined. At the same time, the commonly used multi-end quantity algorithm requires a lot of additional measurement devices, which is too costly. Therefore, in this paper, for the most common single-phase ground fault, a technique for locating collector line faults using impedance method is proposed. This technique uses single-ended or double-ended methods depending on the location of the required electrical quantity on the measurement side, effectively solving the problem of fault branch location, and can be achieved by adding a few measurement devices based on the current configuration at a lower cost. It has a promising engineering application prospect.
