Next-Generation Wireless Communication Using 6G: Architectures, Challenges, and Opportunities

As the sixth-generation (6G) networks are on the verge of changing the nature of connectivity by offering data rates that have never been heard of before, ultra-low latency, and the ability to connect massive numbers of devices, wireless communication has become a critical point in its development. To meet the demands of the upcoming intelligent societies, 6 G will be based on the principles of 5 G that incorporates innovative technologies such as terahertz (THz) communication, intelligent reflecting surfaces, quantum communication, and ubiquitous artificial intelligence. This paper reviews the proposed 6G architecture, involving edge intelligence, a highly decentralised network architecture, and connectivity to satellite and aerial communication technologies. It addresses the technical and practical issues that are associated with the implementation of 6 G such as the necessity of global standardisation, energy-saving, network security, and spectrum scarcity. Also, it determines the key benefits of 6G in areas of the Internet of Everything (IoE), immersive extended reality (XR), remote healthcare, and autonomous systems. The report provides a comprehensive outlook that may assist scholars, engineers, and politicians to design the coming age of wireless communication by considering the disruptive potential alongside the significant difficulties of 6 G. Ultimately, 6 G is expected to be essential in developing smart, completely connected digital ecosystems that will go beyond what the current technology can achieve.
