Up, Up, and Array—Rooftop Photovoltaic Attachment Systems

Through the lens of the building enclosure consultant, using recent project experience, the authors review a variety of common PV array attachment methodologies, discuss best practices, and summarize the advantages and challenges associated with several commonly pursued options. It is important to acknowledge that other proprietary and general options are available and can provide a reliable option for consideration by a project team. This paper is not intended to limit the reader to the options included here in but to provide a high-level summary of various commonly specified and installed attachment methodologies to assist in selecting an appropriate system for a given project or circumstance.
