Neoliberal Time and the Promise of Slow Librarianship.

Chapter from the book Slow Librarianship: Reflections and Practices that describes how neoliberal time has operated to intensify and center work time, encouraging overwork, constant growth, and individual achievement while discouraging solidarity and community care. Slow librarianship offers a communal and values-driven vision for thinking about time, the purpose of our work, and how we view our relationships with and responsibility to others. This chapter describes the problems neoliberal time has created in libraries and the alternative that slow librarianship offers the profession for creating libraries more attuned to the needs of patrons and more supportive of library workers.
