Evaluation of fixed-time artificial insemination (IATF) in cattle farming in Lower Acre

The objective of this research was to evaluate the reproductive efficiency of fixed-time artificial insemination (IATF) in cattle herds in the Lower Acre region. The study was conducted on 7 rural properties, 4 in Acrelândia, 1 in Plácido de Castro, 1 in Rio Branco, and 1 in Senador Guiomard. A total of 175 cows were used, 140 in Acrelândia, 10 in Plácido de Castro, 9 in Rio Branco, and 16 in Senador Guiomard. Reproductive efficiency was measured by the number of pregnant cows (n, %) and the number of calves born (n, %). Fertility index records were obtained from field spreadsheets, which, after completion, were statistically analyzed and interpreted using descriptive statistics, obtaining absolute and relative frequencies for each variable. Of the 175 cows that were inseminated, 94 animals were confirmed pregnant, resulting in a total pregnancy rate of 54%. The animals belonging to the rural properties in the municipalities of Acrelândia and Senador Guiomard showed more satisfactory pregnancy rates, 56% and 75%, respectively. Regarding the number of calves born, a total of 60 animals were born, resulting in a birth rate of 64%. Based on the results obtained, we can conclude that IATF is a technological package with several tools, and its proper handling is essential for the efficiency of the process, potentially presenting many disadvantages if poorly executed, or very effective if performed correctly.
