Respected seniors, distinguished colleagues, and esteemed members of the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists: The ISAians, It is both an honour and a profound responsibility to address you. The trust you have bestowed upon me is deeply humbling, and I accept this role with a strong sense of purpose and commitment. Leadership is not merely a designation—it is a pledge to serve, to uplift, and to inspire. I assure you that my team and I are fully committed to upholding the values, traditions, and aspirations of ISA. Before we look towards the future, I would like to offer my heartfelt gratitude to the outgoing office bearers and all past leaders who have contributed immensely to the evolution of our society. Their dedication has laid a strong foundation, and we are here today because of the countless hours they invested in strengthening and expanding the vision of ISA. Their commitment inspires us to build further, aim higher, and serve better. OUR VISION: COMPETENCE, COMMITMENT, COMPASSION Our collective vision for the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists rests firmly on three guiding principles: competence, commitment, and compassion. Competence reminds us that our first duty is the safety and well-being of our patients. We must ensure that every anaesthesiologist in the country, regardless of location, has access to the latest knowledge, skills, and technology. Commitment signifies our promise to each other as professionals and to the nation. It is our duty to strengthen academic platforms, support our colleagues, and advocate for the speciality at national and international forums. Compassion is the essence of medicine. As anaesthesiologists, we often serve silently, behind the scenes, but our empathy, patience, and dedication define the patient experience. Together, these principles guide every programme, initiative, and policy we aim to undertake. STRENGTHENING ANAESTHESIA SERVICES ACROSS INDIA One of our foremost priorities will be to ensure uniform, high-quality anaesthesia services across urban, rural, remote, and tribal regions. The disparity in healthcare infrastructure across India affects patient outcomes, and it is our responsibility to bridge these gaps. We plan to organise regional training programmes tailored for resource-limited areas and support hospitals and public health centres with guidelines, mentorship, and access to educational material. Furthermore, we will initiate ISA Rural Outreach Anaesthesia Camps to provide hands-on training and community services, while collaborating with government agencies to ensure safe anaesthesia practices in every part of the country. No patient should receive inferior care simply because of geography, and no anaesthesiologist should feel isolated or unsupported due to the place they practice. This will be our priority in the coming year. ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE THROUGH THE COLLEGE OF ISA The College of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (C-ISA) will remain the academic powerhouse of our society. In the years ahead, we aim to make it one of the most dynamic academic bodies in the world. Our goals include establishing Centres of Excellence in multiple regions and strengthening undergraduate and postgraduate training modules. We will introduce standardised online examinations and fellowship programmes while enhancing the quality and reach of webinars, workshops, and simulation-based learning. Additionally, we will encourage research through grants, scholarships, and multi-centric study collaborations. Anaesthesia is evolving rapidly, and ISA must proactively lead this change by setting academic benchmarks that resonate globally. EMPOWERING THE YOUTH: THE FUTURE OF ISA More than 60% of our membership comprises young anaesthesiologists, students, and trainees. They are the backbone of ISA, and their energy, innovation, and enthusiasm will drive our speciality forward. We will ensure greater representation of young members in scientific committees, leadership roles, and academic platforms. This includes dedicated youth-oriented conferences, especially ISA National YUVACON 2026, which promises to be a landmark event. We will also provide research mentorship for postgraduates and training in communication, professionalism, and leadership. Young anaesthesiologists must feel that ISA is not just an organisation they belong to but a family that supports their growth and celebrates their achievements. LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND MENTORSHIP Leadership in healthcare is not accidental—it must be nurtured. We will continue to invest in structured leadership programmes for postgraduate students and early-career specialists. The Extended Leadership Summit, which has already benefited many young anaesthesiologists, will be further expanded. Our aim is to create a national mentorship network alongside leadership workshops focusing on decision-making, ethics, and crisis management. We will also provide training in medico-legal issues, documentation, and communication, as well as support for anaesthesiologists entering administrative roles. A strong profession requires strong leaders, and ISA will take responsibility for shaping them. STRENGTHENING ORGANISATIONAL EFFICIENCY Transparency and record-keeping are essential for the smooth functioning of any professional body. We will enhance the use of the ISA App for documentation, membership updates, event registrations, and communication. Our goal is to make ISA a digitally advanced, member-friendly organisation where every detail is accessible, organised, and transparent. SUPPORTING PRIVATE PRACTITIONERS A large proportion of anaesthesiologists in India serve in private hospitals, ambulatory care centres, and independent freelance practice. Their challenges, particularly medico-legal and financial, are unique. We will strengthen medico-legal advisory services, develop standard operating guidelines for private practice, advocate for fair remuneration, and provide platforms for independent practitioners to voice their concerns. No member should feel alone in times of conflict or crisis. ISA will stand with you. CONTINUING AND EXPANDING FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES During my tenure as Your Own Secretary ISA National, I had the privilege of initiating several flagship programmes including YUVA ISA, ISA Fit Anaesthesiologist Campaign, ISA Sports Cell, ISA Cultural Club, ISA Art and Literary Club, ISA Innovation Cell, ISA Social Outreach Programme, ISA Financial Advisor, ISA HOD Club, and the like. I am delighted that the leaders who came after me nurtured these programmes with great passion. Today, they have become integral to ISA’s identity. These initiatives celebrate every aspect of being an anaesthesiologist—not just the academic but the physical, social, creative, and emotional dimensions of our profession. My promise to you is that we will elevate these members’ wellness programmes to new heights by expanding participation, introducing new categories of activities, and creating national-level events that bring together professionals from across India. STRENGTHENING OUR GLOBAL PRESENCE Our speciality is rapidly evolving worldwide, and India must take its rightful place on the international stage. We will pursue collaboration with global societies such as the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA), ensure representation in international conferences, and create opportunities for exchange programmes, observerships, and visiting fellowships. We will also focus on showcasing Indian research, guidelines, and innovations at global forums. I have a dream—a symbolic dream—of seeing the ISA flag illuminated proudly at global landmarks, perhaps even on the Burj Khalifa, standing alongside our national flag, not for vanity, but as a tribute to the dedication, sacrifice, and excellence of every anaesthesiologist in India. EXPANDING SOCIAL OUTREACH AND PUBLIC AWARENESS Anaesthesiology is often misunderstood by the public. Many still do not realise the central role we play in patient safety. We will therefore conduct public awareness campaigns about safe anaesthesia and observe national days like World Anaesthesia Day with community initiatives. We will engage with schools, colleges, and social organisations to spread awareness, promote campaigns on perioperative safety and pain management, and encourage local ISA branches to adopt community programmes. Our goal is to bring anaesthesiology into the mainstream consciousness and help the public appreciate the invisible work we do every day. A CALL FOR UNITY AND ACTION As we embark on this journey together, I invite each one of you to be an active partner in this mission. No President or Governing Council can transform a society alone; it is the collective heartbeat of thousands of members that creates true change. Whether you are a veteran clinician, a busy private practitioner, or a young resident just beginning your career, your voice matters. I urge you to engage with your local city and state branches, contribute your research and clinical insights to our academic forums, and participate actively in our fitness, cultural, and social outreach initiatives. Let us work with a spirit of collaboration, not competition. Let us support one another in times of crisis and celebrate each other’s triumphs. THE PATH AHEAD The road ahead is filled with opportunities to redefine the narrative of Anaesthesiology in India. My door—and the doors of my entire team—will always be open to your suggestions, your feedback, and your aspirations. Together, let us ensure that the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists remains a beacon of excellence, a pillar of support, and a source of immense pride for every member. Long Live ISA! Jai ISAian!! Dr. Naveen Malhotra President, ISA National Conflicts of interest There are no conflicts of interest.
