Multi-bogie strategy to reduce the energy consumption of a subway

The transportation sector is one of the main emitters of greenhouse gas. It is thus crucial to develop more efficient transportation systems. This paper proposes a multi-bogie strategy for rail vehicles, such as metros. The main principle is to define an optimal off-line strategy, which can then be used online, to define the activation/deactivation of powered bogies. This strategy can be used when several independent motorized bogies are available. In the studied case, an energy saving of 2% is achieved. This result can be higher with more bogies available.
