Access and adherence to calcium supplementation among rural pregnant women and lactating mothers: findings from Chhattisgarh state of India

Calcium supplementation in pregnancy has made significant progress in rural Chhattisgarh. To improve adherence further, efforts on ensuring availability of Calcium will be more fruitful than mainly focusing on maternal behavioral change. Overall post-partum care including Calcium supplementation seem to be a neglected area in Indian health systems. System wide efforts that influence awareness and practices of providers will be needed to address the gap that exists in dosage of Calcium.
